Quickstart

Get Liminal Editor running in both Blender and Godot.

1. Godot: Enable the Addon

In Godot

  1. Extract liminal_editor_1_0_godot.zip
  2. Copy liminal_editor folder into your Godot project addons folder.
  3. Open Project›Project Settings›Plugins and enable Liminal Editor.
  4. (optional) Open Project›Project Settings›Liminal Editor›General and set Workspace Folder to suitable path. The default directory is res://_blender

    Tip

The Liminal Editor section is only visible when Advanced Settings is enabled. Toggle it on using the Advanced Settings switch in the top-right corner of the Project Settings window.

  5. Press Project›Tools›Liminal Editor›Sync Workspace. This creates the workspace folder, marked by a .lmworkspace file.

2. Blender: Install and Configure

In Blender

  1. Open Edit›Preferences›Add-ons›Install and select liminal_editor_1_0_blender.zip.
  2. Enable Liminal Editor in the add-on list.
  3. Expand the Liminal Editor addon section. In the Game Configurations section, click Game Configurations›+ Add Configuration, give it a name and set the Workspace Folder to the workspace folder Godot just synced, the one that contains .lmworkspace (_blender inside your Godot project by default), not the project root. Close Blender preferences.
  4. Bring up the side panels (N), go to LM Toolkit and select the configuration from the dropdown. Selecting it loads the workspace.

Note

Configurations are saved locally in Blender settings. The selection is saved per blend file.

Tip

Add›Entity empty? Check LM Config for an error about the workspace folder, then click Reload Manifest.

3. Create a HelloWorld level in Blender

In Blender

  1. Clear the initial scene: AXEnter.
  2. Create a floor mesh: Add›Mesh›Plane and scale it 4× (S4Enter).
  3. Add a light entity: Add›Entity›light›light_omni and move it 1 unit up (GZ1Enter).
  4. Save the scene as HelloWorld.blend.
  5. In the LM Toolkit sidebar, find the LM Exporter panel and click Export Level. The level is exported to res://_blender/levels/HelloWorld.lm.

4. Import into Godot

In Godot

  1. Create a new 3D scene.
  2. Add an LMMap node.
  3. Set its Map Path to the .lm file (e.g. res://_blender/levels/HelloWorld.lm).
  4. Click Import in the inspector.

Note

Enable Auto Reload on the LMMap node for a live workflow: export from Blender and Godot updates within seconds.
